The Green Guide to the Atlantic Coast

GreenguideatlanticTHE Atlantic coast of France offers sweeping beaches, rocky cliff tops and a rich history that provide many places to visit.

The area is home to massive sand dunes, the longest and highest in Europe, routes once travelled by pilgrims and the traditions of the wine trade.

A popular guidebook series is the Michelin Green Guides and the one for the Atlantic coast, which takes in Poitou, Aquitaine and the Basque Country offers a wealth of information.

This guide provides you with touring guides for the car, as well as details of where to eat, a calendar of events and a bit of historical background.

With its distinctive narrow page width, which personally I find a little cumbersome, there is an alphabetical list of sights around the region.

Bordeaux, capital of Aquitaine, but also at the heart of the wine trade in the region is given plenty of coverage with a number of tours that take in some of the more famous vineyards.

Many of the ports along the coast appear in the book, with details of la Rochelle, Biarritz and the Ile de Ré all featuring.

Where possible opening times and full contact details for places are printed, a few website addresses wouldn’t go amiss, but there are plenty of photographs and maps.

The Green Guide to the Atlantic Coast is well laid out, simple to read and provides the visitor with plenty of ideas.
